GREEN MONUMENTS WALES

The Gnarled and Wrinkly Need You!

Since the spring of 2012 I have had the privilidge of campaigning alongside, Coed Cadw (Woodland Trust Wales) the Ancient Tree Forum and other campaigners including Welsh Assembly Member Ken Skates (AM Labour Clwyd South) in calling for the PROPER PROTECTION of Wales' truly ancient trees...trees such as THE PONTFADOG OAK.

By the end of last year (2012) Coed Cadw (Woodland Trust) had collected over 5,500 signatures to present to the Welsh Assembly Government. Recent developments have seen meetings at Gregynog Powys with the Petitions Committee of the Welsh Govt. Representatives from Coed Cadw, Coed Cymru and the Anceint Tree Forum were present including myself as a volunteer with the Ancient Tree Hunt project.

MEETING WITH WELSH ASSEMBLY MEMBERS (AM's)...  As I was quoted at the time the Pontfadog Oak fell...

"We give Scheduled Ancient monumet status to buildings such as the nearby 700 year old Chirk Castle...why can we then not give a 1,200 year old monument of nature & Welsh culture the same level of protection"?

More recently  we have had meetings with Welsh Assembly Members (AM's on Petitions Committee of the Welsh Govt.) at Gregynog Powys hosted by David Jenkins Coed Cymru. (Nov. 2013)
